"You Wrote of Me" (Original Poem)

 I see my life reflected in the pages of Your book

In every chapter, every line, and everywhere I look


From the Israelites' rejection of Your almighty love 

To manna You still sent them from Your storehouses above


Like me, they strayed from the narrow path time and time again 

Your faithfulness remained and You did not give up on them 


Even genealogy shows Your calculated hand 

Peace is knowing my future is what You've already planned 


You proved Your love when You inscribed stone tablets with Your laws

And in the darkest times You'll save me from the lions' jaws


When I think the battle's lost, You'll add hours to the day 

No force of evil can harm me when You stand in the way 


The smallest army You choose wins Your mighty victories 

Fulfilling prophesies to write Your hand in history


Every passage, every verse has been written for my sake 

So I can always find You in the midst of my heartbreak 


Even at my lowest, I know you won't give up on me 

Despite my fears and doubting, You will calm the raging sea


And when I find myself trapped in the belly of the beast 

I repent and turn to You and You grant me my release 


When I forget everything and run from all my fears

You find me in the desert, strengthen me, and draw me near


I doubt your unfailing promises as my patience fails 

Then You point to the stars, Your plan in glory You unveil


Every single word You speak is pure everlasting truth  

You have forever been by my side even since my youth 


You will guide me and protect me through all eternity 

For on every page of this book, I know You wrote of me


This poem is arranged in couplets, each line containing fourteen syllables. The inspiration is the Bible, God's unfailing Word, and the trials through which I have come to know His faithfulness. God bless you 💛

Recipe: Herbal Tea

This isn't really a recipe, I guess. I wanted to make tea the other day, since it helps me focus on studying. When I have a cup of hot tea beside me, I find myself getting up less often and my studies are not as interrupted. Anyway, I wanted tea, but all we had in our bucket of tea bags were Earl Grey and some other flavors I don't particularly like very much.  I was about to abandon the idea, but then I remembered the little herb garden in the backyard. It had been started and largely forgotten by us, except to clip some sprigs of cilantro to go on top of rice. Oh, and Black Swallowtail butterflies laid eggs on the dill so we now have a lot of adorable chubby caterpillars.  Realizing that tea is simply tea leaves and that I didn't really need the caffeine in the tea anyway, I wandered out to the herb garden and took some clipping of peppermint, lemon balm, and spearmint. "Journey of Whales" (Original Poem)

H arrowing, hollow echo through darkest depths A cross heart and soul bridges abysmal breadth U nder leagues and fathoms pierces mournful cry N ether giants drift, resonate, amplify T heir plaintive, poignant, melancholic refrains I nto vast, stygian, tenebrous domains N avigate solemn sojourns, routes of twilight G racefully glide in melodic marine flight ~ I know it's been a long time since I've posted. Life got hectic. Yet, today I found a moment of time to write, while listening to whale sounds (they help me focus on studying), and I wrote a poem about them. This is an acrostic poem, which means that the first letter of each line makes a word, when put together.

Random Memory: The Straw-Hat-Mailman

This is a bit different from my usual posts, but I wanted to share two memories from my childhood that I still remember at random times and smile about. These memories are both about the same person and, although I've long since forgotten his name, I'll never forget his kindness.  When I was young, the mail carriers who visited our house would change every few years, but there was this one mailman who visited our neighborhood for at least several years. He always wore a large straw hat and carried a huge mailbag, since he would park at one end of the street and walk the entire length of the street, on both sides, before returning to his truck.  I was about eight to twelve years old (so, maybe 2010 to 2014?) when my siblings and I took up a fascination with rubber band guns.
